The road winds up Route 44 to the pass, and from the rest-stop forecourt the western Seorak ridgeline opens out in one sweep. In foliage season the red creeps down the slopes from the top. Step out of the car and the wind turns cold. It is not a place to linger; stop on the way to Osaek or Inje for a coffee and a few photos.
