Yangpyeong travel info
Yangpyeong is a county in Gyeonggi Province, about an hour east of Seoul. At Yangsu-ri the North Han and South Han rivers meet, and that spot is Dumulmeori. One old zelkova tree stands on the bank, and at dawn the mist lifts off the water while photographers line up their tripods. Next door, Semiwon garden fills with lotus in summer. Both are a 15 to 20 minute walk from Yangsu Station.
If the west end of the county is river, the east end is mountain. The bus from Yongmun Station climbs to Yongmunsa Temple, where a ginkgo roughly 1,100 years old draws crowds every autumn. In Yongmun town the five-day market sells mountain greens and herbs. Meals follow the two landscapes: eel and lotus hot dogs by the river, barley rice with foraged side dishes on the mountain side.
You can do it all by train, but the stations are far apart and the county is big. Split it into a half day at Dumulmeori and Semiwon and a half day at Yongmunsa, and nothing feels rushed.
