Work began in 1794 and ended in 1796. King Jeongjo built it with a new town to keep his father, Prince Sado, close, and it joined the UNESCO list in 1997. The wall rides the ridge of Paldalsan, so a gate tower or watchtower keeps appearing around the next bend. Walking all of it takes two to three hours, or pick a 60, 90, 120 or 180-minute route. There is no entrance fee.
