Suncheon Japanese Castle Site

순천왜성

A coastal fort site from the last battle of 1598

Address
Sinseong-ri, Haeryong-myeon, Suncheon

In 1598, near the end of the Imjin War, Konishi Yukinaga's army and the Joseon–Ming land and naval forces fought here for two months. Admiral Yi Sun-sin spent 27 days in the area before heading to the waters off Noryang. What remains is stone fortification on a low pine hill near Gwangyang Bay. The walk along the walls is quiet. Without the story it looks like piled stones, so go knowing the background.
