Two things greet you at the gate: a bear statue and the 14.6 m bronze Unification Buddha. Sogongwon is the yard where every Outer Seorak trail begins, and from here the paths split toward Ulsanbawi, Biryong Falls, Biseondae and the cable car. The summit, Daecheongbong, stands at 1,708 m, but this side lets you choose anything from a flat stroll to a half-day climb. Entry is free, and parking is charged by the day.
