Lake and sea lie side by side with a pine forest between them. On a hill above the lake stands a stone villa built by a German in 1938, which Kim Il-sung's family used in the summers of 1948 to 1950, hence the name. About a kilometre away are the villas of Syngman Rhee and Lee Ki-poong, and together the three make up the Hwajinpo History and Security Exhibition. The usual route is a walk around the lake to visit all three.
