A narrow channel joins Cheongcho Lake to the sea and puts the city centre across from Abai Village. The flat barge that crosses it is called a gaetbae. A steel cable runs along the route, and the boat moves as people on board haul it by hand, so passengers pitch in. The ride lasts only about three minutes, but people queue for the chance.
