Past the main gate, fir trees line both sides and close over the sky. The stretch from the gate to Geumgang Bridge is a little over a kilometre with some 1,700 trees. The ground is packed earth, so footsteps go quiet. An unhurried round trip to the temple takes about an hour. It stays cool in the shade even in summer.
