Mungyeong itineraries
All three Saejae gates
Catch the first bus from Dong Seoul and you are at the Saejae entrance by nine. Walk the full 6.5 km of red-earth road to the top gate at Joryeonggwan, then come down to a late lunch of grilled pork. If Mungyeong gets one day, spend it on this road.
Coal mine, rail bike, Saejae
Day one you go into a real mine shaft at Gaeun and pedal beside the Yeonggang gorge. Day two is an hour barefoot on Saejae's red-earth road. This is the order families with kids do Mungyeong in.
River, mine, hot spring and beyond
Three days is long for Mungyeong alone, so this one spills over. Day one runs from the Yeonggang to Hoeryongpo and the Samgang tavern in Yecheon; day two walks Gaeun and Saejae and ends in the Suanbo hot spring; day three climbs to the top gate from the Chungcheong side and finishes on the Sanmaki old road in Goesan.
