Past the car park and the film set, a stone gate stands square across the path. Beyond it the 6.5km old road begins, and its surface is soft red clay, so plenty of people walk it barefoot. In autumn the maples close over both sides and walking slows to a photo crawl. Of the three gates it is the easiest to reach, so many people just go this far and turn back.
