On Banwol and Bakji, roofs, railings and bridges are all painted purple. Walking the Purple Bridge between the two islands puts tidal flats and open sea on both sides. In summer, Banwol fills with purple verbena (the 2026 festival ran 12 June to 13 September). There is almost no shade, so bring a hat or parasol. It is a workable day trip from Mokpo.
