Roughly 700 tiled houses stand in the middle of the city. After Japanese settlers moved inside the old city walls in the early 1900s, Koreans began building hanok around Gyo-dong and Pungnam-dong, and the village grew from there. Between the lanes you find Gyeonggijeon, Omokdae, Jeondong Cathedral, plus hanji-craft, hanbok and traditional-liquor workshops. People still live in the houses.
