The route lava once took became a cave. About a kilometre is open to visitors: the ceiling is high and the floor still carries ridges from the flow. At the far end a lava column stands more than 7m tall. It is around 10 degrees inside even in midsummer, so bring a light jacket. The floor is uneven and drips from above, so wear sneakers.
