From the Yeongsil rest area to Witseoreum it is 5.8km one way, about two and a half hours. After the forest, the trail climbs onto a ridge lined with the Yeongsil rock pillars and the sky suddenly opens. You do not reach the crater, but you see most of what the upper mountain looks like. It is shorter than Seongpanak and rewards you sooner, so many people pick it for a first Hallasan hike. You can buy cup ramen at the Witseoreum shelter.
