Inje travel info
Inje is almost all mountain. The western edge of Seoraksan reaches into the county, and in autumn the walk from Yongdae-ri to Baekdamsa follows a stream through red maples. In summer, rafts shoot the rapids of the Naerincheon. Wondae-ri's birch forest covers a hillside in white trunks, and in winter the drying racks of Yongdae-ri fill with pollock that turns into hwangtae.
Food starts with hwangtae: grilled, or in a milky hangover soup. Hand-made tofu hot pots are common too. This is the least densely populated county in South Korea, so restaurants and lodging cluster in Inje town, Wontong and Yongdae-ri.
A coach from Seoul takes under two hours, so a day trip works, but Baekdamsa and the birch forest lie in different directions and both in one day is tight. Public transport is thin; a car makes everything easier.
