Jeondeungsa Temple

A very old temple inside a mountain fortress on Ganghwa

This old temple sits inside the Jeongjoksanseong fortress, and its main hall, Yaksajeon hall and bell are designated Treasures. The grounds also hold the Jeongjoksan archive that once stored the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. People crane their necks at the carved female figure said to crouch under the main hall's eaves. You can walk the fortress wall in a loop around the mountain. It is a common first stop on a day trip to Ganghwa.
