Work began in 751 under Kim Daeseong and wrapped up around 774. You climb the Cheongungyo and Baegungyo stairways to the main courtyard, and there the two pagodas face each other: Seokgatap plain and upright, Dabotap carved so finely it looks like stone lace. It was listed as a UNESCO site in 1995 together with Seokguram. The grounds are wide, so plan on about an hour to walk it properly.
