This is as far north as you can go from the south. From the third-floor deck, Gubongsan and the offshore rocks of Haegeumgang look close enough to touch. A telescope pulls in the outline of coastal villages beyond the line. Entry registration and a short security briefing come first, which is a hassle but sets the mood. On a clear day the ridges stack up in blue layers.
