A Treasure-listed house from the early Joseon era, where Shin Saimdang gave birth to the scholar Yulgok in a side room that still stands. Its name comes from the black bamboo, 'ojuk', growing in the back garden. An old plum tree called Yulgok-mae stands in the grounds, with the Yulgok memorial hall and Gangneung City Museum next door. The building appears on the old 5,000-won note, so many visitors find it already familiar.
