The name means 'due east', since it lies straight east of Gwanghwamun in Seoul. The 1995 drama Sandglass put it on the map, and people still gather here for New Year sunrise. From the station it is a few minutes' walk to the beach, so the sea appears as soon as you step off the train. Beside the beach, Sandglass Park holds a giant hourglass that takes a year to run. Time your visit with sunrise and the day starts early.
