Low houses climb the slope of Mt. Uamsan like stairs. Murals cover the alley walls, and between the roofs you look down over central Cheongju. Some shops sit in houses once used as drama sets. The lanes form a simple grid, so getting lost is hard. Go up near sunset and watch the city lights come on.
