About 2,300 UN soldiers killed in the Korean War rest here, in the only cemetery in the world run by the UN itself. Identical headstones stand in neat rows across a wide lawn, and a memorial hall at the entrance tells the story of the 22 participating nations. The double cherry blossoms in April line the paths, but this is a place of remembrance, so walk quietly. It is calm even in the middle of the city.
