Boryeong travel info
Boryeong stretches along the Yellow Sea coast of South Chungcheong. Most people say "Daecheon" and mean Daecheon Beach, a long ribbon of fine sand behind a pine grove. Walk out along the breakwater near sunset and you can watch the sea turn orange.
In July the same beach becomes something else entirely. During the Boryeong Mud Festival, crowds covered in tidal-flat mud fill the sand, with mud massages, mud wrestling and fireworks after dark. The rest of the year the shellfish-grill restaurants light their charcoal in a row, and in winter people come for the grilled oysters of Cheonbuk.
Ferries leave Daecheon Port for the islands. Wonsando is about thirty minutes by boat, or you can drive there through the Boryeong Undersea Tunnel. At Muchangpo a sea path opens around the full moon and lets you walk out to Seokdaedo Island. From Seoul it is about two and a half hours by car on the West Coast Expressway.
