Asan travel info
Asan is home to Onyang Hot Springs, often called the oldest hot springs in Korea. Step out of Onyangoncheon Station, walk the market lanes, and you'll spot the chimneys of old public bathhouses. Hyeonchungsa, the shrine to Admiral Yi Sun-sin, is nearby, and the Gokgyocheon ginkgo road on the way turns solid yellow in autumn.
A bit south, in Songak, Oeam Folk Village is about 500 years old. Its stone walls run more than 5 km in total, and people still live here, so you see laundry and soy-sauce jars over the walls. Sinjeongho lake, ringed by a walking path, and the Mediterranean-style village in Tangjeong each fill half a day.
Buses are sparse in Asan. Cheonan-Asan Station, where the KTX stops, is far from the hot-spring district, so you'll need one taxi or train transfer after arriving. Make Onyangoncheon Station (Line 1) your base and link Hyeonchungsa and Sinjeongho by taxi or bicycle.
